Fishing on Lake Kariba
Fishing for bream on Lake Kariba is a lot like fishing for sunnies on Lake Sylvia. There are, of course, a few exceptions...We are not accustomed to watching elephants grazing on the shore, nor listening to hippos snort in the shallows behind the boat. We did manage to swap a handfull of worms for some pretty tastey pan fish.
My cousin Cindy and her husband Al Briesmeister (holding the catch) hosted us for our last week in Africa. They teach at the international school in Harare, Zimbabwe, and used their long Valentine weekend to show us around northern Zimbabwe. Lake Kariba is a huge resivoir that offers plenty of natural beauty. I suppose we could have tried some water skiing but we saw crocodiles in every bay so settled for game drives and boating. Our fishing guide filled a bucket with water in the pontoon so we could rinse the worm goo off our fingers without having to dip our hands into the shallows. Good decision.
